Thank you for your interest in our school. This will provide you with a short summary. We are the Primary School within the UWCM and we share the building with the Secondary School and Preschool.

We are a public school because we do receive a subsidy from the Dutch government the same as any other Dutch school; however we have mandatory school fees that cover additional expenses i.e. English and Dutch as an Additional Language, special needs teacher, additional teachers to make team teaching possible, etc.

All of our instruction takes place in English. We teach the International Primary Curriculum which is a thematic based curriculum which covers our social studies and science objectives. It is very student-centered and research-based. Our math curriculum is commiserate with what you find in the States for the age group. We also teach language following a curriculum that integrates grammar, writing, spelling, and comprehension. The children also receive Dutch lessons 3 times a week, music once a week, and gym twice a week.

The school day is Monday-Friday from 8.30-15.10. Each day we offer after school activities. The children have a snack and a break from 10.30-10.45 and lunch from 12.10-13.00 which they bring from home and eat in their class before they go outside to play for the remaining time.

Because our students come from various academic backgrounds and experiences, we typically place children in class with their peer group. We make every effort to differentiate our teaching within the class to meet the needs of every child. However, we do teach within the mainstream and due to limited resources, have no special provisions for gifted and talented children or children with learning disabilities or needs beyond the mainstream.
