Leaving procedure
When your child is going to leave the UWCM Primary to attend school somewhere else it is very important to collect and sign a Leavers Form.
This form is available from the Head UWCM Primary and should be handed in a month before your child is scheduled to leave.
The Head UWCM Primary will invite you to an informal meeting to discuss your experiences at UWCM and to say goodbye.

School Attendance and Absenteeism
Frequent absenteeism is detrimental to the child, the class and the teacher and can cause not only regression in educational progress but also emotional stress. Teachers frequently prepare lessons for individual children and plan group activities and it is extremely frustrating for a child to take unexpected leave of absence. Obviously illness cannot be avoided or planned for and it is expected that children will have days of absence because of this. In cases which do not involve illness you are requested to apply using the Application for Leave of Absence form.
If your child is ill you are requested to inform the school as early as possible on the first day of illness. If no message is received by 10.30 a.m. efforts will be made to contact the parents or guardians so that teachers can be sure that parent are aware their child is not in school.
The school is required to inform the City’s School Attendance Officer of unexplained, long term or frequent absences.
If you have any queries you may contact the City’s School Attendance Officer at 043 – 3505454.
A record of a child’s attendance will be included on his/her report and on the school-leaving document.
We require parents to ensure that their children are on time for school. Late arrivals disrupt and hold up the commencement of the whole group program.

Parents and children are kindly requested to wait for the doors to open at 8:20. The children are expected to line up and wait for their teacher to come and pick them up.
Please ensure that your child knows who is collecting him/her for his/her safety and everyone’s peace of mind. Make sure your child knows about arrangements before setting off to school. Children are only supposed to make phone calls during school in real emergencies and not to arrange how they are going to get home. If you come by car please park safely in the car parks near school and walk your child to and from the playground making use of the school crossing patrol. Careless stopping or parking can cause accidents and the victim could be YOUR CHILD!
ID1 and 2 parents should collect their children from the big playground . The teachers will take the children outside. ID1 and 2 children will not be allowed to leave the area until an adult has collected them.
It sometimes happens that parents are unavoidably late in picking up their child after school. In an emergency please contact the school and your child will be taken care of until collected
Dutch law states that your child has to attend school from the age of five. However you may keep your child at home for up to five hours a week until they turn six. We would prefer you not to but if you feel it’s for the benefit of your child, you are entitled to do so. If you want your child to stay at home for more than five hours, you must obtain special permission from the Head of the International Department.
The school must give children permission to take time off if they cannot be at school for religious reasons. The same applies for a relative’s funeral or wedding or other important family events.
You are requested to keep to the official school holidays, even if you want to go on a skiing holiday or visit relatives abroad. In special cases the Head of the International Department may give permission for a child to be absent from school for up to ten days in order to go on holiday with his or her parents. This applies only to parents who, because of their job, cannot go on another time. If this is the case, you are requested to produce a letter from your employer stating that you cannot go on holiday at any other time. A request of this kind can be made once a year at most. The Head of the International Department cannot give permission for children to be absent in the first two weeks after the summer holiday.
