Dutch as an Additional Language

Dutch as an Additional Language (DAL)
As important as the books, is the work related to the IPC topics and the work related to the Dutch and international festivities and traditions as well as the seasons of the year.
This way all schemes are supplemented with stories, poems, exercises for spelling and grammar and other material introduced by the teachers.
Of course we aim for the best possible results, as we see Dutch as an Additional Language the goals and aims must be seen and will be measured and tested as so.
We use a variety of language schemes within our Dutch Lessons:
Schemes:
•Taaljournaal
Taaljournaal is a scheme for language, spelling and vocabulary. Students can choose different activities. This gives them a unique opportunity to differentiate in learning style and speed.
•Horen, zien en schrijven
For the acquisition of verbal skills we use the program Horen Zien en schrijven .This is accomplished by listening-, reading- and writing activities.
•Veilig leren lezen
This scheme is an introduction program for the Taaljournaal scheme.
•Plop
Additional to our basic program we work with the PLOP program [personal learning and development plan].
Plop is a scheme in which the children can apply their new Dutch language skills during social contexts.

At the UWCM Dutch is taught from Kindergarten onwards.
Due to the fact that we teach children of different nationalities, ages and the fact that they start through the year, each child works at its own level.
Within our course, children work from receptive use of language to productive use of language.
