Who are we?
Our preschool was formed in 1993 to fill the needs of the International community in the region.
Like the multi-faceted picture from which we took our previous name: Mosaic, UWCMaastricht Preschool is made up of many different components. Children of many nationalities and languages come together in our classroom in Maastricht, the Netherlands to learn and play together. We are the only English-speaking preschool in the Maastricht/Aachen/Liege region.
Students and staff come from all over the region to our classroom. UWCMaastricht Preschool is a not-for-profit school. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe and challenging environment for children aged 2 to 4 years old. Here they can make friends and develop the skills and independence they will need to make the transition to elementary school.
At their 4th birthday, children in the Netherlands are required to move on to the first level of elementary /lower school. Approximately 90% of our students go on to UWCMaastricht Primary School.
Who are our students?
Our students come from a variety of international backgrounds and speak a world of languages at home, including Japanese, Dutch, Spanish, Hebrew, Swedish, Italian, French and German. In our classroom we speak English. However, it is not necessary for a child to speak English in order to attend UWCMaastricht Preschool. Classes are limited to 19 students per session, with one teacher and two assistants.
Who are our teachers?
Our head teacher is a highly qualified and experienced educator who taught primary school children for many years in the United Kingdom. She is brimming with new ideas for the students which makes the class fun and exciting. She takes a flexible approach to learning, giving children time to discover interests and friends within an open structure.
We also have 2 experienced teaching assistants in the classroom. We have 3 adults in the class everyday. This provides for the children and their various needs, keeping a low ratio of around 6:1, which is optimal in preschools.
